Articulation Center for High School and University held a total of four reading seminars for the 2024 academic year, in July and August 2024 and twice in March 2025. Each seminar was a hybrid of face-to-face and online sessions, and a total of 22 high school students participated in the seminars.
These seminars were held in the style of a university seminar class, with the aim of sharing reading experience between participants by choosing one recent popular paperback or pocket book that was written for high school students or that they would like to think about.
The participants read the assigned books in advance and tackled the tasks such as the author's aims and points they did not understand, and then on the day of the class they exchanged opinions and worked on writing introductions. Based on the opinions that came up in the first half of the discussion, the participants wrote their introductions while imagining what kind of people the book is suitable for and thinking about how to express the good points of the book. Some students even made use of advice from their high school teachers when writing their introductions.
The participants commented: "I was able to hear perspectives and questions that I would not have thought of on my own", "It takes courage to present my opinions in front of everyone, but having many opportunities to speak in this way gives me confidence, and I was able to share perspectives that I had not noticed before, which was a really grateful experience", and "I was able to actually attend a seminar at the university. It was an opportunity to imagine university life. My motivation to study has improved, and my desire to go to Kanazawa University has become even stronger. In addition, since there are fewer opportunities to read books during the examination period, I was able to broaden my horizons, and it was a very fulfilling time."
